CTE Programs of Study

The Bergenfield High School CTE Business Management and Administration program consists of a three full-year course pathway:

1. Business Dynamics
2. Business Communications
3. Business Law and Ethics

Students who are interested in leading and organizing the operations of a business are strongly encouraged to enroll in the program. Students will develop the communications skills to express themselves appropriately and effectively in an academic and business environment. The study of organizational culture will also be covered in all three courses. Completers of the program will take the end of course assessment in Fundamental Business Concepts prior to finishing the program. The opportunity to earn three college credits through successful completion of the Business Law and Ethics course is available through the school’s partnership with Fairleigh Dickinson University.

The Bergenfield High School CTE Health Science program prepares students for postsecondary study in the health sciences and/or future employment in allied health. Participants in this program have the opportunity to take the following four courses:

1. Dynamics of Health Care
2. Health and Wellness
3. Medical Terminology
4. Anatomy and Physiology Honors

Each of these four courses allow opportunities for students to gain college credit through our partnerships with Bergen Community College and Rutgers University. Completers of the program could possibly earn 13 total college credits. College credit through Rutgers University is contingent upon successful complete of the end of course exam.

Admission and criteria for selection in career and technical education programs do not restrict any race, color, sex, national minority origin or student with a disability from participation or access in the Bergenfield High School Career and Technical programs. The following is a list of CTE programs being offered and the criteria for admission:

• Health Science - ability to work collaboratively in a classroom or lab setting
• Business Management and Administration - ability to work collaboratively in an office environment

Within each program students have the opportunity to join a Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO). Health science students may take part in the Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA) - Future Health Professionals. HOSA actively promotes career opportunities in the health industry and enhances the delivery of quality health care to all people. Business CTE students may participate in DECA prepared emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. DECA students will compete against other school teams.

No, all CTE courses are offered and taken on the campus of Bergenfield High School.

Students receive a discounted tuition rate for the college credit from two dual enrollment courses: Business Law and Ethics (FDU) and Anatomy and Physiology (BCC). Through the school’s arrangement with Rutgers University, a student receives college credit from Rutgers’ School of Health Professions at no cost to the student. BHS students must pass the Rutgers end of course examination to be eligible for college credit.
